A 66-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Wednesday night after a head-on collision with a vehicle in the 1600 block of Gordon Way, Yakima police reported.
The driver of the vehicle, a 71-year-old woman, was heading north after pulling onto Gordon Way from Tamarack Avenue, when she crossed the centerline and struck the oncoming e-bike, according to a preliminary YPD investigation.
When emergency responders arrived just before 11 p.m., they found the seriously injured bicyclist lying beside the road. Yakima fire and medical personnel administered emergency treatment before he was transported to MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital, an alert on YPD鈥檚 Facebook said. An update on the cyclist's condition was not available from police.
Impairment has been ruled out as possible contributing factor in the accident, but YPD鈥檚 traffic unit is still investigating to determine what happened.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact traffic investigator Darius Williams at 509-306-3814.
